1. 1 이 일 뒤에 이러한 일이 있었더라. 다윗의 아들 압살롬에게 아름다운 누이가 있었는데 그녀의 이름은 다말이더라. 다윗의 아들 암논이 그녀를 사랑하였으나

   1 Now Absalom, Davids son, had a beautiful sister, whose name was Tamar; and after a time Amnon, Davids son, loved her.

2. 2 그녀가 처녀이므로 자기가 그녀에게 무슨 일을 함이 어려운 줄로 생각하고 암논이 자기 누이 다말로 인해 심히 괴로워서 병이 드니라.

   2 And Amnon was so tormented that he made himself ill because of his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin, and it seemed impossible to Amnon to do anything to her.

3. 3 한편 암논에게 요나답이라는 이름을 가진 친구가 있었는데 요나답은 다윗의 형 시므아의 아들이며 심히 간교한 사람이더라.

   3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shime-ah, Davids brother; and Jonadab was a very crafty man.

4. 4 그가 암논에게 이르되, 왕의 아들인 네가 어찌하여 날마다 여위어 가느냐? 너는 내게 고하지 아니하겠느냐? 하니 암논이 그에게 이르되, 내가 내 동생 압살롬의 누이 다말을 사랑하노라, 하매

   4 And he said to him, "O son of the king, why are you so haggard morning after morning? Will you not tell me?" Amnon said to him, "I love Tamar, my brother Absaloms sister."

5. 5 요나답이 그에게 이르되, 너는 침상에 누워 병든 체하다가 네 아버지가 너를 보러 오시거든 그분께 말하기를, 원하건대 내 누이 다말이 와서 내게 음식을 주게 하고 내 눈앞에서 음식을 차리게 하여 내가 그것을 보며 그녀의 손에서 먹게 하옵소서, 하라, 하니라.

   5 Jonadab said to him, "Lie down on your bed, and pretend to be ill; and when your father comes to see you, say to him, `Let my sister Tamar come and give me bread to eat, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it from her hand."

6. 6 ¶ 이에 암논이 누워 병든 체하다가 왕이 그를 보러 올 때에 왕께 이르되, 원하건대 내 누이 다말이 와서 내 눈앞에서 나를 위해 납작한 빵 두 개를 만들게 하사 내가 그녀의 손에서 먹게 하옵소서, 하니

   6 So Amnon lay down, and pretended to be ill; and when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, "Pray let my sister Tamar come and make a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand."

7. 7 그때에 다윗이 사람을 집으로 다말에게 보내어 이르되, 이제 네 오라비 암논의 집으로 가서 그를 위해 음식을 차리라, 하므로

   7 Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, "Go to your brother Amnons house, and prepare food for him."

8. 8 이에 다말이 자기 오라비 암논의 집으로 갔는데 그가 누워 있더라. 그녀가 밀가루를 가져다가 반죽한 뒤 그의 눈앞에서 납작한 빵들을 만들어 그 빵들을 굽고

   8 So Tamar went to her brother Amnons house, where he was lying down. And she took dough, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes.

9. 9 냄비를 가져다가 그의 앞에 쏟아 놓았으나 암논이 먹기를 거절하며 이르되, 모든 사람을 내게서 물러가게 하라, 하니 그들이 각각 그 앞에서 물러가니라.

   9 And she took the pan and emptied it out before him, but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, "Send out every one from me." So every one went out from him.

10. 10 암논이 다말에게 이르되, 음식을 침실로 가져오라. 내가 네 손에서 먹으리라, 하므로 다말이 자기가 만든 납작한 빵들을 취해 침실로 자기 오라비 암논에게 가져갔는데

    10 Then Amnon said to Tamar, "Bring the food into the chamber, that I may eat from your hand." And Tamar took the cakes she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.

11. 11 그녀가 먹이려고 그것들을 그에게 가져갔을 때에 그가 그녀를 붙잡고 그녀에게 이르되, 내 누이야, 와서 나와 함께 눕자, 하매

    11 But when she brought them near him to eat, he took hold of her, and said to her, "Come, lie with me, my sister."

12. 12 그녀가 그에게 응답하되, 아니니이다. 내 오라버니여, 나를 강제로 욕보이지 마소서. 이스라엘 안에서 이런 일을 해서는 아니 되오니 오라버니는 이 어리석은 일을 하지 마소서.

    12 She answered him, "No, my brother, do not force me; for such a thing is not done in Israel; do not do this wanton folly.

13. 13 나 곧 내가 내 수치를 어디로 가게 하겠나이까? 오라버니에 관한 한 오라버니는 이스라엘 안에서 어리석은 자들 중 하나같이 되리이다. 그러므로 이제 원하건대 왕께 말하소서. 그분께서 나를 오라버니에게 주기를 거절하지 아니하시리이다, 하였으나

    13 As for me, where could I carry my shame? And as for you, you would be as one of the wanton fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray you, speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you."

14. 14 그가 그녀의 목소리에 귀를 기울이지 아니하고 그녀보다 힘이 세므로 그녀를 강제로 욕보이며 그녀와 함께 누우니라.

    14 But he would not listen to her; and being stronger than she, he forced her, and lay with her.

15. 15 ¶ 그리하고는 암논이 그녀를 심히 미워하였으므로 그가 그녀를 미워한 그 미움이 전에 그가 그녀를 사랑하던 그 사랑보다 더 컸더라. 암논이 그녀에게 이르되, 일어나 가라, 하매

    15 Then Amnon hated her with very great hatred; so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, "Arise, be gone."

16. 16 그녀가 그에게 이르되, 합당한 이유가 없나이다. 나를 쫓아서 보내는 이 악은 오라버니가 내게 행한 다른 악보다 더 크니이다, 하되 그가 그녀의 말에 귀를 기울이려 하지 아니하고

    16 But she said to him, "No, my brother; for this wrong in sending me away is greater than the other which you did to me." But he would not listen to her.

17. 17 그때에 자기를 섬기는 자기 종을 불러 이르되, 이제 이 여자를 내게서 내보내고 그녀를 보낸 뒤에 문을 빗장으로 잠그라, 하니라.

    17 He called the young man who served him and said, "Put this woman out of my presence, and bolt the door after her."

18. 18 그녀가 채색옷을 입었으니 이는 처녀인 왕의 딸들이 그런 옷으로 치장하였기 때문이더라. 그때에 그의 종이 그녀를 끌어내고 그녀를 보낸 뒤에 문을 빗장으로 잠그니

    18 Now she was wearing a long robe with sleeves; for thus were the virgin daughters of the king clad of old. So his servant put her out, and bolted the door after her.

19. 19 ¶ 다말이 자기 머리에 재를 뒤집어쓴 뒤 입었던 채색옷을 찢고 손을 머리 위에 얹고는 크게 울며 가니라.

    19 And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent the long robe which she wore; and she laid her hand on her head, and went away, crying aloud as she went.

20. 20 그녀의 오라비 압살롬이 그녀에게 이르되, 네 오라비 암논이 너와 함께 있었느냐? 그러나 내 누이야, 그는 네 오라비니 지금은 잠잠히 있고 이 일을 마음에 두지 말라, 하매 이에 다말이 자기 오라비 압살롬의 집에서 처량하게 지내니라.

    20 And her brother Absalom said to her, "Has Amnon your brother been with you? Now hold your peace, my sister; he is your brother; do not take this to heart." So Tamar dwelt, a desolate woman, in her brother Absaloms house.

21. 21 ¶ 그러나 다윗 왕은 이 모든 일을 듣고 심히 노하였으며

    21 When King David heard of all these things, he was very angry.

22. 22 압살롬은 자기 형 암논이 자기 누이 다말을 강제로 욕보였으므로 암논을 미워하여 좋다 나쁘다 그에게 말하지 아니하였더라.

    22 But Absalom spoke to Amnon neither good nor bad; for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.

23. 23 ¶ 만 이 년 뒤에 에브라임 옆 바알하솔에서 압살롬이 양털 깎는 자들을 모으니라. 압살롬이 왕의 모든 아들들을 초청하고

    23 After two full years Absalom had sheepshearers at Baal-hazor, which is near Ephraim, and Absalom invited all the kings sons.

24. 24 왕께 와서 이르되, 이제 보소서, 왕의 종이 양털 깎는 자들을 모았사오니 간청하건대 왕께서는 왕의 신하들을 거느리시고 왕의 종과 함께 가사이다, 하매

    24 And Absalom came to the king, and said, "Behold, your servant has sheepshearers; pray let the king and his servants go with your servant."

25. 25 왕이 압살롬에게 이르되, 아니라. 내 아들아, 이제 우리가 다 갈 필요가 없나니 우리가 네게 누를 끼칠까 염려하노라, 하니라. 압살롬이 왕에게 졸랐으나 왕이 가려 하지 아니하고 다만 그에게 복을 빌므로

    25 But the king said to Absalom, "No, my son, let us not all go, lest we be burdensome to you." He pressed him, but he would not go but gave him his blessing.

26. 26 이에 압살롬이 이르되, 그리하지 아니하시려거든 원하건대 내 형 암논이 우리와 함께 가게 하옵소서, 하매 왕이 그에게 이르되, 어찌하여 그가 너와 함께 가야 하느냐? 하되

    26 Then Absalom said, "If not, pray let my brother Amnon go with us." And the king said to him, "Why should he go with you?"

27. 27 압살롬이 왕에게 조르므로 왕이 암논과 왕의 모든 아들들을 그와 함께 가게 하니라.

    27 But Absalom pressed him until he let Amnon and all the kings sons go with him.

28. 28 ¶ 그런데 압살롬이 이미 자기 종들에게 명령하여 이르기를, 이제 너희는 암논의 마음이 포도주로 인해 즐거워할 때를 주목하였다가 내가 너희에게, 암논을 치라, 하고 말하거든 그를 죽이라. 두려워하지 말라. 내가 너희에게 명령하지 아니하였느냐? 용기를 내고 용맹스럽게 행하라, 하였으므로

    28 Then Absalom commanded his servants, "Mark when Amnons heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, `Strike Amnon, then kill him. Fear not; have I not commanded you? Be courageous and be valiant."

29. 29 압살롬의 종들이 압살롬이 명령한 대로 암논에게 행하매 그때에 왕의 모든 아들들이 일어나 각각 자기 노새를 타고 도망하니라.

    29 So the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the kings sons arose, and each mounted his mule and fled.

30. 30 ¶ 그들이 길에 있을 때에, 압살롬이 왕의 모든 아들들을 죽이고 그들 중 하나도 남기지 아니하였다, 하는 소식이 다윗에게 오매

    30 While they were on the way, tidings came to David, "Absalom has slain all the kings sons, and not one of them is left."

31. 31 이에 왕이 일어나 자기 옷을 찢고 땅에 누우니 그의 모든 신하들도 자기 옷을 찢고 옆에 서니라.

    31 Then the king arose, and rent his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants who were standing by rent their garments.

32. 32 다윗의 형 시므아의 아들 요나답이 응답하여 이르되, 내 주께서는 그들이 그 모든 청년들 곧 왕의 아들들을 죽인 것으로 생각하지 마옵소서. 암논만 죽었나이다. 암논이 압살롬의 누이 다말을 강제로 욕보인 날부터 그의 작정에 의해 이것이 결정되었나이다.

    32 But Jonadab the son of Shime-ah, Davids brother, said, "Let not my lord suppose that they have killed all the young men the kings sons, for Amnon alone is dead, for by the command of Absalom this has been determined from the day he forced his sister Tamar.

33. 33 그러므로 이제 내 주 왕께서는 그 일을 마음에 두지 마옵시고 왕의 모든 아들들이 죽은 줄로 생각하지 마옵소서. 암논만 죽었나이다, 하니라.

    33 Now therefore let not my lord the king so take it to heart as to suppose that all the kings sons are dead; for Amnon alone is dead."

34. 34 그러나 압살롬은 도망하였으며 파수를 보는 청년이 눈을 들어 보니, 보라, 자기 뒤에서 산허리 길로 여러 사람이 오더라.

    34 But Absalom fled. And the young man who kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold, many people were coming from the Horonaim road by the side of the mountain.

35. 35 요나답이 왕께 이르되, 보소서, 왕의 아들들이 오나이다. 왕의 종이 말한 대로 그렇게 되었나이다, 하고

    35 And Jonadab said to the king, "Behold, the kings sons have come; as your servant said, so it has come about."

36. 36 그가 말을 마치매, 보라, 즉시 왕의 아들들이 와서 소리를 높여 우니 왕과 그의 모든 신하들도 심히 통곡하니라.

    36 And as soon as he had finished speaking, behold, the kings sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept; and the king also and all his servants wept very bitterly.

37. 37 ¶ 그러나 압살롬은 도망하여 그술 왕 암미훗의 아들 달매에게 갔고 다윗은 날마다 자기 아들로 인해 애곡하니라.

    37 But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son day after day.

38. 38 이같이 압살롬이 도망하여 그술로 가서 거기서 삼 년을 지내매

    38 So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

39. 39 다윗 왕의 혼이 압살롬에게 나아가기를 열망하였으니 이는 암논이 죽었으므로 그에 관하여 왕이 위로를 받았기 때문이더라.

    39 And the spirit of the king longed to go forth to Absalom; for he was comforted about Amnon, seeing he was dead.
