창세기 42장 [킹제임스]

1. 1 When Jacob learned that there was grain in Egypt, he said to his sons, "Why do you just keep looking at each other?"

   1 한편 야곱이 이집트에 곡식이 있음을 보고는 자기 아들들에게 이르되, 너희는 어찌하여 서로 쳐다만 보느냐? 하고

2. 2 He continued, "I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there and buy some for us, so that we may live and not die."

   2 또 이르되, 보라, 이집트에 곡식이 있다는 것을 내가 들었으니 너희는 거기로 내려가 우리를 위해 거기서 사라. 그러면 우리가 살고 죽지 아니하리라, 하므로

3. 3 Then ten of Josephs brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt.

   3 ¶ 요셉의 형 열 명이 이집트에서 곡식을 사려고 내려갔으나

4. 4 But Jacob did not send Benjamin, Josephs brother, with the others, because he was afraid that harm might come to him.

   4 야곱이 요셉의 동생 베냐민을 그의 형들과 함께 보내지 아니하였으니 이는 야곱이 말하기를, 혹시 악한 일이 그에게 생길까 염려하노라, 하였기 때문이더라.

5. 5 So Israels sons were among those who went to buy grain, for the famine was in the land of Canaan also.

   5 이스라엘의 아들들이 곡식을 사러 온 자들 가운데 있었으니 이는 가나안 땅에 기근이 있었기 때문이더라.

6. 6 Now Joseph was the governor of the land, the one who sold grain to all its people. So when Josephs brothers arrived, they bowed down to him with their faces to the ground.

   6 요셉은 그 땅의 총독이 되었으며 바로 그가 그 땅의 온 백성에게 파는 일을 하였더라. 요셉의 형들이 와서 그 앞에서 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려 절하니

7. 7 As soon as Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger and spoke harshly to them. "Where do you come from?" he asked. "From the land of Canaan," they replied, "to buy food."

   7 요셉이 자기 형들을 보고는 그들을 알아보았으나 그들을 모르는 체하며 그들에게 거칠게 말하고 또 그들에게 이르되, 너희는 어디에서 왔느냐? 하매 그들이 이르되, 양식을 사려고 가나안 땅에서 왔나이다, 하니라.

8. 8 Although Joseph recognized his brothers, they did not recognize him.

   8 요셉은 자기 형들을 알아보았으나 그들은 그를 알아보지 못하였더라.

9. 9 Then he remembered his dreams about them and said to them, "You are spies! You have come to see where our land is unprotected."

   9 요셉이 자기가 그들에 관하여 꾼 꿈들을 기억하고 그들에게 이르되, 너희는 정탐꾼들이니라. 이 땅의 드러난 틈을 엿보려고 너희가 왔느니라, 하니

10. 10 "No, my lord," they answered. "Your servants have come to buy food.

    10 그들이 그에게 이르되, 아니니이다. 내 주여, 주의 종들은 단지 양식을 사러 왔나이다.

11. 11 We are all the sons of one man. Your servants are honest men, not spies."

    11 우리는 다 한 사람의 아들들로서 진실한 자들이오며 주의 종들은 정탐꾼들이 아니니이다, 하니라.

12. 12 "No!" he said to them. "You have come to see where our land is unprotected."

    12 그가 그들에게 이르되, 아니라. 이 땅의 드러난 틈을 엿보려고 너희가 왔느니라, 하니

13. 13 But they replied, "Your servants were twelve brothers, the sons of one man, who lives in the land of Canaan. The youngest is now with our father, and one is no more."

    13 그들이 이르되, 주의 종들은 열두 형제로서 가나안 땅에 있는 한 사람의 아들들이니이다. 보소서, 막내는 이날 우리 아버지와 함께 있고 한 명은 없어졌나이다, 하매

14. 14 Joseph said to them, "It is just as I told you: You are spies!

    14 요셉이 그들에게 이르되, 내가 너희에게 말하기를, 너희는 정탐꾼들이니라, 한 말이 바로 그것이니라.

15. 15 And this is how you will be tested: As surely as Pharaoh lives, you will not leave this place unless your youngest brother comes here.

    15 너희는 이같이 하여 너희 말을 입증할지니라. 파라오의 생명을 두고 맹세하노니 너희 막냇동생이 여기에 오지 아니하면 너희가 여기에서 나가지 못하리라.

16. 16 Send one of your number to get your brother; the rest of you will be kept in prison, so that your words may be tested to see if you are telling the truth. If you are not, then as surely as Pharaoh lives, you are spies!"

    16 너희 중에서 한 사람을 보내어 그가 너희 동생을 데려오게 하고 너희는 감옥에 갇혀 있음으로써 너희 안에 진실이 있는지 너희 말을 입증할지니라. 파라오의 생명을 두고 맹세하노니 그러지 않으면 너희는 분명히 정탐꾼들이니라, 하고

17. 17 And he put them all in custody for three days.

    17 그들을 다 함께 사흘 동안 감금하였더라.

18. 18 On the third day, Joseph said to them, "Do this and you will live, for I fear God:

    18 셋째 날 요셉이 그들에게 이르되, 나는 하나님을 두려워하나니 너희는 이같이 하여 살지어다.

19. 19 If you are honest men, let one of your brothers stay here in prison, while the rest of you go and take grain back for your starving households.

    19 너희가 진실한 자들이면 너희 형제들 중 한 사람만 너희 감옥 집에 결박되게 하고 너희는 가되 곡식을 가지고 가서 너희 집의 기근을 면하라.

20. 20 But you must bring your youngest brother to me, so that your words may be verified and that you may not die." This they proceeded to do.

    20 그러나 너희 막냇동생을 내게 데려오라. 그래야만 너희 말이 입증되고 너희가 죽지 아니하리라, 하니 그들이 그대로 하니라.

21. 21 They said to one another, "Surely we are being punished because of our brother. We saw how distressed he was when he pleaded with us for his life, but we would not listen; thats why this distress has come upon us."

    21 ¶ 그들이 서로 이르되, 우리가 우리 동생에 관하여 참으로 죄를 지었도다. 그가 우리에게 간청할 때에 우리가 그의 혼의 고통을 보고도 들으려 하지 아니하였으므로 이 괴로움이 우리에게 닥쳤도다, 하매

22. 22 Reuben replied, "Didnt I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldnt listen! Now we must give an accounting for his blood."

    22 르우벤이 그들에게 응답하여 이르되, 내가 너희에게 말하여 이르기를, 그 아이에게 죄를 짓지 말라, 하지 아니하였느냐? 그랬는데도 너희가 들으려 하지 아니하였느니라. 그러므로, 보라, 주께서 그의 피도 요구하시는도다, 하니라.

23. 23 They did not realize that Joseph could understand them, since he was using an interpreter.

    23 요셉이 통역자를 통해 그들에게 말하였으므로 그들은 그가 자기들의 말을 알아듣는 줄을 알지 못하였더라.

24. 24 He turned away from them and began to weep, but then turned back and spoke to them again. He had Simeon taken from them and bound before their eyes.

    24 그가 그들을 떠나 돌아서서 울고 그들에게 다시 돌아와 그들과 대화하다가 그들로부터 시므온을 취해 그들의 눈앞에서 결박하였더라.

25. 25 Joseph gave orders to fill their bags with grain, to put each mans silver back in his sack, and to give them provisions for their journey. After this was done for them,

    25 ¶ 그때에 요셉이 명령하여 곡식을 그들의 자루에 채우게 하고 각 사람의 돈을 각 사람의 자루에 도로 넣게 하며 길에서 필요한 양식을 그들에게 주게 하니 그 종이 그들에게 그렇게 행하매

26. 26 they loaded their grain on their donkeys and left.

    26 그들이 곡식을 나귀에 싣고 거기를 떠났더라.

27. 27 At the place where they stopped for the night one of them opened his sack to get feed for his donkey, and he saw his silver in the mouth of his sack.

    27 그들 가운데 한 사람이 여관에서 나귀에게 먹이를 주려고 자기 자루를 풀다가 자기 돈을 발견하였는데, 보라, 돈이 그의 자루 아가리에 있더라.

28. 28 "My silver has been returned," he said to his brothers. "Here it is in my sack." Their hearts sank and they turned to each other trembling and said, "What is this that God has done to us?"

    28 그가 자기 형제들에게 이르되, 내 돈이 도로 돌아왔도다. 보라, 돈이 내 자루 속에 있도다, 하니 그들의 마음이 그들을 기진하게 하므로 그들이 두려워하며 서로 이르되, 하나님께서 우리에게 행하신 이 일이 무엇이냐? 하였더라.

29. 29 When they came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan, they told him all that had happened to them. They said,

    29 ¶ 그들이 가나안 땅에 있는 자기들의 아버지 야곱에게 와서 자기들에게 일어난 모든 일을 그에게 고하여 이르되,

30. 30 "The man who is lord over the land spoke harshly to us and treated us as though we were spying on the land.

    30 그 땅의 주(主) 그 사람이 우리에게 거칠게 말하며 우리를 그 나라의 정탐꾼들로 여기기에

31. 31 But we said to him, We are honest men; we are not spies.

    31 우리가 그에게 이르되, 우리는 진실한 자들이요, 정탐꾼들이 아니니이다.

32. 32 We were twelve brothers, sons of one father. One is no more, and the youngest is now with our father in Canaan.

    32 우리는 우리 아버지의 아들들로서 열두 형제인데 한 명은 없어지고 막내는 이날 우리 아버지와 함께 가나안 땅에 있나이다, 하였더니

33. 33 "Then the man who is lord over the land said to us, This is how I will know whether you are honest men: Leave one of your brothers here with me, and take food for your starving households and go.

    33 그 나라의 주 그 사람이 우리에게 이르되, 내가 이같이 하여 너희가 진실한 자들임을 알리라. 너희 형제들 중 한 사람을 여기에 나와 함께 있도록 남겨 두고 양식을 가지고 가서 너희 집안의 기근을 면한 뒤

34. 34 But bring your youngest brother to me so I will know that you are not spies but honest men. Then I will give your brother back to you, and you can trade in the land."

    34 너희 막냇동생을 내게 데려오라. 그러면 너희가 정탐꾼들이 아니요, 진실한 자들임을 내가 알고 이로써 너희 형제를 너희에게 넘겨주리니 너희가 이 땅에서 거래를 하리라, 하였나이다, 하더라.

35. 35 As they were emptying their sacks, there in each mans sack was his pouch of silver! When they and their father saw the money pouches, they were frightened.

    35 ¶ 그들이 자기들의 자루를 비우면서 보니 각 사람의 돈뭉치가 각 사람의 자루 속에 있으므로 그들과 그들의 아버지가 다 돈뭉치를 보고 두려워하였더라.

36. 36 Their father Jacob said to them, "You have deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more and Simeon is no more, and now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is against me!"

    36 그들의 아버지 야곱이 그들에게 이르되, 너희가 내게서 내 자식들을 빼앗아 갔도다. 요셉도 없어졌고 시므온도 없어졌는데 너희가 베냐민을 빼앗아 가려 하니 이 모든 일들이 나를 대적하는도다, 하매

37. 37 Then Reuben said to his father, "You may put both of my sons to death if I do not bring him back to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring him back."

    37 르우벤이 자기 아버지에게 말하여 이르되, 내가 그를 아버지께 데려오지 아니하거든 내 두 아들을 죽이소서. 그를 내 손에 넘겨주소서. 내가 그를 다시 아버지께 데리고 돌아오리이다, 하므로

38. 38 But Jacob said, "My son will not go down there with you; his brother is dead and he is the only one left. If harm comes to him on the journey you are taking, you will bring my gray head down to the grave in sorrow."

    38 야곱이 이르되, 내 아들은 너희와 함께 내려가지 아니하리니 이는 그의 형이 죽고 그만 홀로 남았기 때문이라. 만일 너희가 가는 길에서 악한 일이 그에게 생기면 너희가 내 흰머리를 슬픔과 함께 무덤으로 떨어뜨리리라, 하니라.
